Professional interests

Since 2002 I am working at the University of Gävle. In 2019 the university had a reorganization and now I belong to the geospatial division of the Department of Computer and Geospatial Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Sustainable Development.

I also have my own company, GeoVega, where I occasionally do consulting work, mainly in the field of flood risk mapping.

In short this is what has happened so far: I grew up in Ljusdal, which i situated in Hälsingland in the middle of Sweden. I practiced different sports, including bandy like all the other kids in Ljusdal, until I finally decided to focus on rifle shooting. After the secondary school and one year at the back then mandatory military service, I started my university studies in Uppsala for a master's degree in physical geography and particularly fluvial geomorphology. After that I turned to Institute of Geography, University of Copenhagen, in Denmark and continued with a Ph.D. study in fluvial geomorphology. Both my master and Ph.D. studies had the Reventazón River in Costa Rica as a case study. I defended my thesis in 1999 and later on got work at the Department of Geography and International Development Studies, Roskilde University, and also the Danish Forest and Nature Agency in Copenhagen. In 2002, I moved to Gävle with my family and started working at the University of Gävle, which is in the same county as Ljusdal.
